CULTURE AND SOCIETY
Building Institutional Capacity in Education
Alumni Organizations
Drawing on Diaspora networks, the Serbian Unity Congress helped the University of Belgrade reach thousands of alumni around the globe and established the first university-wide alumni organization in Serbia.
Preserving Serbian Cultural Identity
All cultures cherish what is most precious in their cultural history because it affirms the best that is carried through the generations and that allows cultures to be better and stronger with time. The Serbian Unity Congress has supported three ongoing programs that are contributing to honoring, preserving and recognizing some of the best Serbian historical cultural tradition and persons who have excelled in skills and talents to carry it on.
The Blago Fund
The fund supports the development of an archive of digital records of Serbia’s most important religious sites and cultural artifacts, many dating back to the Byzantine period. These archives preserve and record Serbian historical presence and traditions in Kosovo and other regions with Serb history. It is the only archive of its kind in the world and has received recognition from top historical institutions that use the information for their professional needs including Princeton University, Harvard’s Dumbarton Oaks Byzantine Center and others.
The Blago Fund program has evolved into a separate entity, Blago Fund Inc., another Serbian Unity Congress sister organization.
St. Sava Essay Program
St. Sava is the most beloved Serb saint honored as the patron saint of medicine and education. The program has continued the tradition of honoring the role of education in Serbian society and St. Sava’s place in that cultural history. It has awarded students in Serbia who submitted the best essays on the importance of St. Sava’s teachings.

In honor of Serb Diaspora physicist Marko Jaric this program has presented annual financial prizes to top physics students in Serbia.
