OUR WORK
Mission - Serbian Unity Congress is a multi-faceted non-profit Diaspora organization committed to engaging our members and friends in promoting our community’s interests, in nurturing our heritage and in assisting in the development of democracy and economic progress in the homeland. >>>
Diaspora - Our organization’s constituent base is the Serbian Diaspora. Our work is made possible by our unique ability to reach the Diaspora constituency through our wide universe of members, friends and affiliations. This network infrastructure allows us to inform our base and to draw on the Diaspora talent to carry out our many programs. >>>
Locations - The organization headquarters are located in Washington, DC. In 1991 the Serbian Unity Congress also established an official presence in Serbia. Additionally, we have active branches in Vienna, Austria and Vancouver, Canada. >>>
Goals - We are committed to achieving these goals by promoting and engaging participation in the democratic process through our programs. Our programs address the political, social and economic issues facing the Serbian people in the former Yugoslavia and the Diaspora. They are designed to educate and engage Serbs everywhere in the process of participatory democracy and the building of civil society in the homelands. Our projects engage our participants (Diaspora Serbs and Serbs in the homelands) in the complete process of problem identification, and the steps in solution implementation.
Programs - We have several program areas: Voice, Bridge and Culture and Society. Within these program areas we carry out various projects that promote the objectives of those programs. We draw on the Diaspora’s expertise, networks and financial and other resources to develop and implement our projects. We also engage non-Diaspora resources to carry out our work.
Operations - Members of the Board of Directors oversee the operations of our programs that are carried out by the staff and volunteers.
Financial Support - The work of the Serbian Unity Congress is supported by membership dues, tax-deductible donations and grants.
