HISTORY - Since 2000 - Transition to Democracy
Years of communism and wars drained the Serbian people of its energy, resources and talents and devastated its economy and morale. As Serbia turned to a democratic future the Serbian Unity Congress turned to future challenges and needs and developed programs geared to contribute constructively to the rebuilding of a democratic future for its people. Our presence in the US and Serbia has allowed us to grow our networks throughout the Diaspora and to pool Diaspora talent and good will, which has allowed us to carry out our mission.
Washington, DC
Through the Washington Office we have continued to be the Diaspora presence in our US capital. We created the Serb Voice Program that formalized our approach of engaging our constituents with their democracy. The program activities include:
-
Serb Day in Congress
-
Serb issues position papers
-
Informing and educating the Serbian American voter base
Belgrade
Our presence in Serbia was established in 1991. We are the only Diaspora organization with an ongoing presence in Belgrade through the Milosevic years and since. Through our Belgrade Office the Diaspora and the people in the Homeland engage in joint Diaspora/Homeland Bridge programs.
The Bridge programs are designed to contribute to the building of civic society in Serbia by jointly engaging both Diaspora and Homeland Serbs in their implementation. Our unique role as a Diaspora organization allows us to garner Diaspora talents, networks and financial resources. Our programs address important social, economic and cultural issues in concrete ways. Our Bridge programs are:

Round Table
